Digital Twin

DIGITAL TWIN

What is a Digital Twin?

A digital twin is a digital replica of a physical entity. It documents all of the systems, components, materials, and information that make up it’s physical copy. In the case of Northern Nomad, the digital twin holds information of every aspect of the constructed home. This allows us to keep track of the entire project, and documents all of the internal components for future use. Need to make a cut into the wall for a pipe repair? We can open up our digital twin and see exactly where the cut needs to be made to avoid damaging the surrounding components. Our digital twin is built using the Building Information Modelling (BIM) software Revit, and integrates the architectural, construction, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical system details all in one digital file.

Why use a Digital Twin?

Our digital twin is a window into the walls of the Northern Nomad, allowing us to look into the structures and systems that are built out of sight on the physical home. With it we can see where individual pipes are located, where wires were placed in the walls, and all of the framing details of the structure all in real time on a computer screen. The digital twin allowed us to coordinate all of the necessary building systems before we ever got to construction. In this way, we were able to resolve conflicts and optimize the organization of systems to ensure that everything worked together as we wanted it to.
